Sunday Video: Highlighting the Faces of Lawsuit Abuse
For months, the Chamber's Institute for Legal Reform has been highlighting the impact of frivolous lawsuits on individuals and small businesses through their Faces of Lawsuit Abuse Web site. Recently, to further help get the message out, some of the lawsuit story videos have been running in movie theaters around the nation before the features. Lisa Rickard, the president of the Institute, appeared on MSNBC's Your Business to discuss the program.

Ms. Rickard is emphasizing getting "people" not to sue. Perhaps a better approach would be working on ethics in the legal profession. When attorneys who know that their client is making false accusations or who actually create false accusations for a client to make for the purpose of stealing property or putting someone out of business, that attorney should face severe penalties, including jail sentences. It is not enough for these attorneys to be allowed to continue practicing law, and even disbarment is not enough. One such attorney merely stated, "I know I'll get disbarred eventually, but by then I'll have enough money that it doesn't matter."
