Health Care Reform This Year?
Marilyn Werber Serafini asks "Is Health Reform Still Possible this Year?"
The worsening economic situation and the withdrawal of the Daschle nomination appear to have slowed down momentum for health care reform. Do you think there still is enough time to complete health care reform this year?
Not to dampen the mood, but I think comprehensive health care reform is increasingly unlikely this year. For one thing:
[W]e have already spent a huge amount of money, very quickly, on health care. Every dollar we spend on this expends not just monetary but also political capital, and lessens the public’s appetite for a massive “grandiose scheme” bill that will completely reform and revamp the health care system.
