New Disaster Research Released

By Mark D’Alessio

New studies and reports have been released regarding the many natural disasters that have occurred in 2008 globally.  As the hurricane season winds down, The Natural Hazards Center at the University of Colorado is predicting greater hurricane activity in October than in previous years.  Additionally, the GAO has written a report for the Senate based on their insights from past disasters and the Centre for Research on the Epidemiology of Disasters (CRED) based in Brussels has released a report outlining the impact of the 2008 disasters around the world. Check out all the research here.

Thank you for spreading the word about these important developments in the world of natural hazards and disasters.

I would like to note, however, that the Natural Hazards Center is not predicting increased hurricane activity, but reporting on that prediction, which was made by Colorado State University scientists Philip Klotzbach and William Gray, based on their established monthly forecasts.

It is the mission of the Natural Hazards Center to advance and communicate knowledge on hazards mitigation and disaster preparedness, response, and recovery. Our Center is heavily grounded in the social sciences. We do not conduct atmospheric research.

Thank you for your attention.
