An Afternoon in Abingdon
by David Tully
Yesterday was so busy I didn't even get to finish reporting on Friday. After leaving North Carolina, with the literature and rain flowing, the Bandwagon rolled into the town of Abingdon, VA to spread the message of VoteForBusiness. Abingdon is located in the Appalachian valley between the Middle and North Fork of the Holston River. Virginia is a key state in the upcoming elections.
With a population around 7,700 people, the town of Abingdon is a cultural center for southwest Virginia. One of the highlights of the town is the renowned Barter Theatre, which is the state theatre for Virginia. We walked down West Main Street and passed out literature, discussed pressing issues, and shared small talk with local business owners.
Before we departed, we stopped into the Washington County Chamber of Commerce and talked with the staff. They welcomed us with open arms and gave us a brief background on the town. After a successful afternoon, we hit the road for the great city of Nashville, home of the "Grand Ole Opry." Stay tuned.
No doubt about it, we will see European style socialism if the democrats get a supermajority on Nov. 5. Half of the hard working country will work to death support the people on welfare (more will be tempted to go on welfare), to pay for the other half’s medical bills…. and we will end up broke.
Look at the biggest welfare states - California, New York and Illinois -which happen to be also the biggest economic failures with billions of dollars in budget shortfalls because the state taxes are about 10 percent or more on top of the federal taxes and are used for years not to grow wealth but to spread the wealth to non-working people…Not only that but the liberals who control state government have choked business and impose burdensome regulations that prevent new business from developing (example, California has huge oil resources offshore but so far has forbidden the oil companies to develop those resources. Now it is going broke with foreclosures and joblessness, while the governor takes pride in talking about emissions and global warming. Desperate citizens cross the border every day to pay for cheap Mexican gas …)
1. Look at Texas, no income tax, encouragement of drilling onshore and offshore, business friendly, and now it is the only island of prosperity in the whole country. See for yourself and choose well.
