When ChoicePoint was honored with the 2007 Corporate Stewardship Award by the U.S. Chamber of Commerce Business Civic Leadership Center for our contributions to economic, community and social progress it was a validation of our holistic giving program, ChoicePoint Cares.
ChoicePoint Cares goes beyond financial contributions to its core competency - helping create a safer, more secure society through the responsible use of information. ChoicePoint supplies tools and resources and donates millions of dollars worth of free and deeply discounted background screening services for volunteers working with children and other nonprofit organizations. ChoicePoint is the preferred background screening provider for the National Human Services Assembly, Little League International, Boy Scouts of America, National CASA and thousands of other nonprofits around the country that are diligently protecting the populations they serve.
Consider these statistics: recently, we released the results of our five-year audit of our nonprofit background screenings. In the more than 3.7 million background screenings conducted, the audit found more than 189,000 individuals who had at least one criminal conviction attempted to gain employment or volunteer with a nonprofit organization. That’s 144 individuals with criminal records seeking employment or a volunteer opportunity with a nonprofit every day. In addition, the audit also found:
- More than 2,700 registered sex offenders;
- 3,900 sex-related crimes;
- 37,400 drug-related offenses; and
- 651 murder convictions.
The ADAM (Automated Delivery of Alerts on Missing Children) program and the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children (NCMEC) also reached a milestone in returning the 100th child to her family.
ADAM, developed by ChoicePoint associates and donated to NCMEC dramatically improves NCMEC’s ability to target specific areas in which missing children are most likely to be found. ADAM uses fax technology to distribute missing child posters to police, news media, schools, businesses, medical centers and other recipients within a specific geographic search area, such as a state, ZIP code, area code or a combined search area near a city and ZIP code.
At ChoicePoint, we have fostered a culture of inclusion that not only encourages social responsibility and action, but assumes it. We are committed to serving our communities by providing our technologies, information and analytics to nonprofit organizations so that they have the necessary tools to make informed decisions in their effort to fulfill their respective missions.
