Stop Me Before I Eat Again

by David Chavern

This piece from the LA Times is one of the most disturbing things I have read in a long, long time.  Eating too damn much isn’t my fault!  (Heavens, I would feel bad if it were – and we can’t have that.)  No, it is the fault of nameless and faceless businesses out there – who, by the way, employ people, pay taxes and create value for the economy.  Regulate THEM but leave me alone.

This is in the same vein with CAFÉ standards – “stop me before I am forced to buy another SUV!”.

We can run but we can’t hide.  We can try to avoid individual responsibility for our choices, but we will still end up paying the costs no matter how much we might want to put them on someone else.  You eat too much and you die early – and no amount of regulation on food businesses are going to change that central incentive on good behavior.

What a crock that article is. It assumes nothing of personal responsibility. I can have chocolate and cookies in my home and walk past them for a week. I do not have to eat it just because it is there...

It is about self control, Awareness and being awake to life. It is no differnt than the concept of resposible driniking.

You can not govern common sense. If people are going to be pigs THEY will pay the price. Know what you eat, use common sense, Go to the gym and get off your fat behind. Give lean fit people discounts on medical insurance and healthy food choices.

Finally! I recommend action that would require all producers of trans-fat to inject their product with a chemical which would make it smell like the East River or new city ordinances that would require each McDonald's to be flanked by either a 24 Hour Fitness or Whole Foods. Save us from our stomachs!

I just KNEW it wasn't my fault - the fried chicken and peach cobbler purveyors here in Dixie are to blame. And Krispy Kreme...those bastards. I am filing suit immediately...I want damages - and a new wardrobe in a larger size. No one is safe from blame, except myself - of course.
